AWARD-WINNING COFFEE BEANS MEET LATIN-INSPIRED BITES

A “tormenta” (the Spanish word for “storm”) is a concept well-known to anyone living off the Gulf Coast. But unlike its blustery name, Tormenta Coffee & Kitchen is quickly becoming a cozy hangout for neighbors and travelers alike.

“That’s the key,” said owner Aidee Hernandez. “Providing a space where people can gather while enjoying great coffee and food.”

Established in September 2024, Tormenta Coffee is a labor of love, combining family recipes with new trends in coffee, tea and more. The result: a true whirlwind of flavors.

Something for everyone

With its eclectic offerings, anyone who visits Tormenta Coffee is sure to find something they’ll love. For drinks, the menu features espresso standards highlighting award-winning Houston coffee roasters—along with refreshing surprises like Charcoal Lemonade and the Lavender Cloud Matcha.

When it comes to the food, don’t let the casual Latin-inspired menu fool you. There’s impeccable flavor packed into every bite, with standouts like their Signature Breakfast Burrito and Dad’s Shrimp Tacos.

“We have a huge focus on scratch-made here,” said Hernandez. “From our syrups and salsas to our chorizo and smoked meats for brisket birria and carnitas—it’s all made with love.”

Uplifting for all

While the food and drinks are central to the Tormenta Coffee concept, the way people feel when they’re visiting can’t be overlooked.

“We put a huge emphasis on customer service,” said Hernandez, “encouraging our baristas to get to know locals and give a warm welcome to Kemah visitors.”

And that warmth extends to employees and local businesses, too. Hernandez emphasized that Tormenta Coffee’s vision also includes providing higher wages and using local products as much as possible.

What Drives Tormenta Coffee?

Opening a new business is not for the weak. But, to Hernandez, those challenges are accompanied by even greater rewards.

“The connection with the community makes it worth it,” said Hernandez. “There’s so much happiness in chatting with our customers and making them feel at home.”
