Meet the Restaurant that brings Tex-Mex Flavor, Culinary Style, and OG
Houston Swagger to Kemah.
Purple marks the spot at Kemah’s newest Mexican Fusion restaurant, Gordo Niños. Since August of this year, Chef Trinidad “Machete” Gonzalez has been serving up his unique and colorful spin on Mexican cuisine right here in Toucan Alley. With a restaurant design that’s just as eye-catching as the food, Gordo Niños is sure to become a new hometown favorite.

Authentic Mexican Food with that ‘Sauce’
From Spliff Tacos to Killa-dillas, Chef Machete is serving up all the Mexican staples you could want with his own vibrant flair. That’s because in 2018, he created a signature condiment affectionately called “Lean Sauce.” Don’t be alarmed—this product doesn’t contain codeine, or the key ingredient in “purple drank” famous in Houston’s rap circles in the 1990s. The only similarity: it’s purple.
This versatile sauce complements anything you put it on—tacos, burritos, flautas, and according to one customer, even donuts. Today, bottled Lean Sauce is available at the Gordo Nino’s location in Kemah.
Award-Winning Food and a Fresh Energy
Here, the food, customer service, and style is always fresh. As soon as you enter the storefront, you’re greeted with the aroma of sizzling foods on the flat top, the sights of a galactic mural and a range of bold, funky furniture that beckons you to settle in.
“We’re in Texas—you can find delicious Mexican food on just about any corner,” said Gonzalez “But we can guarantee that when you come to Gordo Niños, you’ll get a completely unique experience and food that tastes amazing.”
And if you’re worried it’s all hype—Chef Machete has a whole trophy case that begs to differ. Voted People’s Choice Best Tacos in Houston four years in a row (2019-2022), Gonzalez reigned as Houston’s Top Chef in 2021 and was James Beard Nominated that same year. Gonzalez and team also earned Best in Show at the 2022 Taste of the Bay.
